9/10/10  The Golden Knights won their opener against Arcadia for the third straight year, this time needing a late score to clinch the victory.

Running back Michael Melnick rushed for 146 yards on 24 carries and opened the scoring with a 15 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Quarterback Brett Nelson connected with receiver Ian Hamilton for a 41 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 and added a second touchdown pass to Travis Talianko.

The Golden Knight defense had to overcome a stellar performance from Apache quarterback Myles Carr, but the secondary picked the team up thanks to an interception and fumble recovery from safety Ted Williams and a second interception by defensive back Ryan Jenkins.

The Apaches got within a touchdown with two minutes left making the score 35-27. An onside kick attempt was recovered by Austin Nieves at midfield, and two plays later the Golden Knights faced a third and six to potentially ice the game. Nelson connected with tight end Keith Enterante, who fought off a tackle en route to a game-clinching 46 yard touchdown.

Brett Nelson went seven for 13 for 156 yards and three touchdowns in his season debut, adding a fourth on the ground after a one yard sneak. Fullback Luke Anderson scored a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter giving the Golden Knights six different touchdown scorers on the night.

St. Francis starts the season 1-0 and looks to create a streak next week on the road against Crescenta Valley. The Foothill fight begins Friday at 7:00 at Glendale High School.
